Texas Foundation for Local Government

About the Foundation

This small, efficient group of volunteers has a clear mission to improve the effectiveness, accountability, and management of local government. Governed by the Texas City Management Association, it is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization with a mission “to strengthen communities through innovative, effective educational programs for local officials, citizens, and children.” Toward this goal, the Foundation has developed the Our Town, Texas program.

Our Town, Texas

This is a critically acclaimed book of classroom activities that teaches middle-school children about how local government works and what their role is in it. We have already donated hundreds of books and CDs to public schools, reaching approximately 60,000 students.

The Texas Foundation for Local Government also helped fund a publication titled City Government that Works: the History of Council Manager Government in Texas.
